Top Tips for Holiday Decorating

We receive questions each year on holiday decorating and our best advice is to keep an open mind. Don't limit yourself to the traditional wreaths or red and green Christmas decor only. Look to your furniture and existing fabrics for guidance. And when in doubt, silver and gold evoke all the beauty and charm of the holiday season without committing you to a color scheme. Below are a few more of our favorite tips for holiday decorating.

Follow the aesthetic of your house

Whether your home is midcentury or traditional, French or modern farmhouse, spend some time collecting appropriate holiday décor to fit the style of your spaces. Retro or 1960's accessories would have a place in a midcentury home like the one pictured, while a modern farmhouse would benefit from woodsy or natural materials. Antique shops are great places to scour for seasonal décor, and there are a lot of local holiday markets selling one of a kind finds and handmade goods.

Don't neglect outdoor living areas

In Florida, we are lucky enough to be able to enjoy outdoor living year round. While our usual focus is on the front porch while holiday decorating, outdoor living spaces in your backyard can be just as important. Consider a beautiful centerpiece or even another Christmas tree. Holiday décor outside will help make the outdoor spaces feel like an extension of the indoor spaces and provide more festive space for entertaining.

Don't limit yourself to one Christmas tree

Our favorite way to spread the holiday warmth is to scatter trees around the house. In addition to the main tree, smaller trees placed in other areas add an element of cozy throughout. Dining rooms are a great place for a second tree since gathering happens here, and add one in your master bedroom to enjoy as you wind down from long days of entertaining. White twinkle lights and trees in different rooms will add ambiance to enjoy throughout the season.

Top it all off with seasonal florals

Live florals make such a difference for centerpieces or mantle décor. Find a florist you love, share your color scheme, and let them create something special! This is also a great way to shop local; we recommend the talented Liz Stewart Floral Design.
