Designing for the Kids
Some of the most creative rooms we design involve our youngest clients. From rec rooms to bedrooms to study spaces we are challenged to make these spaces inviting and comfortable for the youngest members of the family. We thought we would share some of our favorite spaces we have had the pleasure to design.
All-Purpose Rec Rooms:
A fuse ball table and moveable ottoman coffee table make this room fun and flexible for any activity.
Warm tones in this wood accent add interest to the room. A plush rug make this space inviting for all to lounge.
This fun space located on the first floor of the home is a teenage hangout complete with pool table and game table. Details like a brick wall and wood ceiling make this space feel like you are at a billiard’s place in Europe.
Customized Bedrooms
Bedrooms are our personal spaces and giving kids a say in the design can let them know you are ok with them having their own individual taste. It is a great way for them to express their personality.
A reclaimed wood wall and denim coverlet make this room good looking and able to hold up to all a teenage boy can dish out.
When your client wants a graffiti wall you find an artist to do artwork so it’s not permanent. We love the edgy design that was complemented with an upholstered headboard and metal detailed night stands.
If your designing for grandkids making a special space like this will make sleepovers fun and frequent.
Using bright and colorful fabrics make this room great for a teen but also for a future guest room.
Don’t forget to add special spaces like this reading nook with custom paneling.
Specialty Rooms
When your child has special interests why not cater to them and support their hobbies.
This is for the musicians in your family big and small.
When your family has a lot of energy to burn this gym complete with a climbing wall might do the trick.
This hallway turned into a library was great for our client the book worm!
Study Time
Dedicated study spaces help kids focus and be creative.
In a recent model home we staged, we thought using a travel themed study would make homework more interesting.
Working in this organic office up in the trees would be wonderful. We used a live edge desk and modern fixture to complete the space.
All of these examples show that you can have kid’s spaces in your home that cater to them but also have a high sense of style!
