A Light and Bright Beach House Remodel - Rethinking Spaces

We were excited to help a previous client and recent empty nester remodel the perfect beach home for the next chapter in her life. She had found the perfect location, but the house lacked the function and aesthetic she desired.

The existing kitchen was a bit dark and drab and not ideal for entertaining.  We knew staying within the existing footprint would not work so we rethought the spaces of the main living area to completely accommodate her needs.

Before, the kitchen and dining room were side by side but by stealing the dining room it allowed us to enlarge the kitchen and even make room for a butler’s pantry complete with a dumb waiter to send groceries up from the first-floor garage.Pulling the kitchen out of the corner opened it up for a great place to entertain with clear sight lines into the family room. With the request for an appliance and sink free island, we got creative on the perimeter to make sure it felt balanced. A paneled refrigerator on one end and the range with hood on the other end achieved exactly that. The hood was given a custom plaster finish in the same color tone as the cabinets for a light and bright overall design.

An existing bar area that would never be used by our client became the perfect home for the new dining area. A full bench seat installed from wall to fireplace not only provides ample seating but also added storage.  The powder bath door was relocated around the corner to allow for a new artwork focal point when entering the front door.

A major anchor of the entire second floor living was the updated fireplace.  Centering it on the kitchen allows for easy TV viewing and social interactions with family and friends while cooking.  A full width reclaimed wood mantle over a new linear gas fireplace add warmth to the space.  Finishing the fireplace with a complementary plaster finish to the hood brought balance and continuity to the space. All new furnishings finish off the main floor with a calming color palette of creamy whites and blues with a mix of wood tones and bronze accents.

The main 2nd floor was not the only upgrade the house received.  All three stories of this beach house were touched to make sure it had a cohesive design and flow throughout.  Details made all the difference as you can see below with the custom cable stairwell design.

The existing master bedroom offered 2 walk-in closets that were not necessary for our client. Converting the smaller of the two into an en suite laundry room that connected to the bathroom was a must.  Reconfiguring the master bathroom without a utility room gave us extra space to open the small and dark shower, relocate the tub, and give the wow factor that this master bathroom truly deserved.  Soft white creamy cabinets, matching tile throughout, and chrome finishes make the space feel large and luxurious while keeping consistent with a light and bright aesthetic.

After a complete renovation, we were able to bring a dated house back to life with better function, flow, and an aesthetic that allows our special client to entertain loved ones and enjoy a beach lifestyle.
